I’m so happy that you’re checking out my blog, Apple Lucy Cooking. I’ve been mulling over blog ideas for a while, and finally inspiration hit. I recently inherited some pastel-frosted, gold-rimmed beverage glasses. I wanted to know more about these glasses so I did a Google search. I found out they are Blendo Glasses made in the 1950s and 1960s. How cool!

Blendo Glasses

My mind started imagining what types of drinks from that era were served in these glasses. Was it a fancy gathering or was it an intimate family affair? What foods were they eating while using these glasses? I thought it would be fun to find a cookbook from that time and have a 50s or 60s night with the family. That’s when I had my a-ha moment.

Why only explore the 50s and 60s? Each decade has its own interesting history. With that history comes an influence on food and drink trends. What were my great-grandparents learning to cook after they immigrated to the USA from Italy? What did my grandparents eat while growing up? My parents? My curiosity got the best of me, and this blog was conceived.

The best-selling cookbook from each decade will be explored for a couple months. I’ll try a variety of recipes and will share my insights on what worked, what didn’t, and what tweaks I made to make the recipe work in modern times. I’m starting off with the 1900s, specifically The Good Housekeeping Woman’s Home Cook Book by Isabel Gordon Curtis (1909). I hope you enjoy this journey and find some “new” recipes to try out for yourself!
